Awesome

Awesome is a word that's meant to capture all the good qualities of a subject. In essence it's the inner person one often feels him or herself to be without any of the flaws they might have. Bringing out awesome loosely means drawing out a talent someone has, if not many talents to focus onto a task. Doing good deeds is thought to be awesome; however the word remains a vague term up for reinterpretation.

It's a buzz word and as such it provokes imagery and emotion that the general masses find en-captivating. This word play gets people excited about a concept they don't fully understand and essentially tricks them into accepting things branded as awesome.

Things That Are Awesome

(As we need a precise definition of awesome for legitimacy purposes, let us compare and contrast things that are and are not awesome. That is, here, anything that does help or contradict our mission of ending "world suck.")

  • People(Awesome is the new "special" because "special" isn't attractive because it can also mean retarded people)

FREEDOM!!!

  • General Good Deeds
    • Helping people who need it
      • Good Deed 101
    • Sharing our knowledge
      • I think step one would be to learn how to get informed from reliable sources, spreading misinformation is dangerious.
    • Spreading our joy
    • Serving the world
      • What does that even entail?
    • Pursuing the elimination of hate
      • No, this leads to more problems, we should strive for better education instead.
    • Striving for the completion of humanitarian tasks
      • Humanitarian should be filtered out to "Oblong" for it too makes me ill.
    • Learning other languages to spread our awesome everywhere. (foreign tongues does not work because it omits various sign languages).
      • I think this is too specific and should just be "lern moar"
    • Pursuing the betterment of other pogotribeers
      • Isn't that basically Good Deed 101?
    • Reach out to others and help them reveal that which is inside of them that they had not yet seen without your help.
      • Isn't this in the title?
    • Helping one another.
      • Good Deed 101
    • Remember we all need someone to lean on.
      • I really don't like the way this is worded, at all, how about "Do not be afraid to ask for help" if you want this point at all.
      • I agree with the above, it sounds kinda cheesy while having no specific, important meaning to it.
      • Remember we are all interconnected so ask for help when you need it.
    • Teaching each other how to become independent and self-sufficient within the tribe, so our individual achievements will, in turn, strengthen our community.
      • So how do those who aren't independent teach others to be? Seems a little... catch22.
      • Possibly by being self-sufficient themselves. Lead by example.
    • Showing your true self (Aka. your weirdness), in a way that might reveal someone else's true self.
      • not everyone is eccentric at heart. I don't get how simply displaying your toe nail collection will help others become space engineers.
      • Maybe there are people who can grow from the sharing of knowlege from shared interests.
      • Come on man! Reach deeper than that! He's saying "be yourself" so others will realize that they can quit hiding, and show their true selves as well. That is truly awesome and one of the major social issues we need to accomplish in this world.
    • Not being afraid or shy to have a positive outlook on everything
    • Getting rid of the social grievance of "I'm not good enough"
      • This is a good point, but it's not what awesome IS or IS NOT, it's more a process to awesome.
      • Should we keep it or should we put it somewhere else??
    • Acting toward others as you want them to act toward you. In other words; if you want others to bring out more awesome in you,
      • This doesn't work for everyone.
      • It's that kind of mindset that we need to get rid of. You aren't the exception because of one excuse or another. Everyone is awesome and capable of bringing out awesome in others. (I see your point here.)
    • Being honest with other members of the tribe
      • Yeah, not being a lying dirtbag is pretty awesome which makes me think we should condense all this down to "good deeds" because they don't really define awesome any better as a giant list than simply saying "good deeds" does.
  • Remain non-judgmental as everyone is equally awesome and unique in different ways.
  • Ponies
  • Various Foods
  • Not forgetting to be awesome
    • I advocate for this to be removed because you can't define awesome by saying it's awesome. Well you can, but it's lame to do it.
    • I was just trying to help out lol. We can change whatever we need to. I trustmy tribe =]

Precise Definition of Awesome

From the list above we concur that awesome is anything and everything that induces positive feelings of happiness, joy, love, etc. and/or decreases suck-induced feelings such as sadness, anger, pain, jealousy, etc. But however by dictionary definition awesome means someone/something thats deserving of worship, and/or praise. Now I know were good and I may go as far as to call us awesome, but modesty is the best policy.

(Maybe its best to fall from the mainstream.)

Ideas

  • Sandwiches are awesome. One day a year should be International Free Sandwich Day, where everybody makes awesome sandwiches and shares them with each other. (This idea can be linked with embracing your "inner weird")
    • Sandwiches aren't weird though, and neither is sharing. But I do like the idea of a free lunch.
    • I am well up for Free Sandwich Day, as long as there was a vegetarian sub-section.
      • Wouldn't you just not put meat on it? Most sandwiches don't have meat anyway... Or you could just pick the meat out.
    • HECK YEAH LETS DO IT!!!!!!
  • This can be summed up, as stated so eloquently by the Vlogbrothers, as "Don't Forget To Be Awesome," or more simply "DFTBA."

All of this awesomeness talk is really great and I by no means want to sound pessimistic however, what I see stated in the above is all about warm and fuzzies and sugarcoating. I agree with Dan that the real mission of changing the suckiness of our world starts with education and sharing our knowledge with those who unfortunately are unable to obtain it on their own. Then we need to work (and this is most important) as ONE to change what is wrong with this world. I can have multiple great ideas but I cannot always execute them successfully without the help of an "army" so to speak. The truth hurts but taking a look at the truth and exposing our society's lies will ultimately hold those accountable who have been manipulating and using us. I believe that in America alone, we are losing our freedoms and human rights on a daily basis and that is NOT awesome. Our government was set up to be run by US. The people and if we don't take a stand and make some real changes as the responsible people who own this country, then we are left to merely conform to being controlled by "BIG" Business and special interest groups along with overpaid nickel politicians with dime jobs. I have some specific ideas however I want to see what the response is to this entry before I take another step down the road to change. Who's with me? Warm and fuzzy is fun but who is ready to roll up their sleeves and really go to work to make some change?
Before we even think about bringing out the awesome in others we need to establish a method of getting to know others. Specifically in the tribe and then branching off from there. Anyone want to suggest a networking method? Also before one can use their awesome to bring out awesome in others, it'd be a good idea to make a section on how someone can bring their own awesome out and then we can get to how they can use that to help others. I think we should stop calling it awesome and stop borrowing so heavily from other people. It's really lame to be rip off version with clearly no imagination, don't you think?

Questions

  • What are the barriers to "bringing out the awesome in others"? Why isn't this the norm of social behavior?
