"Accept that we don't know everything" is one of the values for our PogoTribe. Please use this wiki page to flesh out what this means to us. The end goal is to have a 2-3 paragraph summary of each of our stated goals.

[edit] Ideas

  • The most popular method of encouragement is incentive.
How do you provide incentive to society to do something such as thinking? Are there other effective methods of encouragement?
  • Some people find thinking to be an arduous task. So to encourage thinking, we must prompt thought without forcing people to work hard at it.
  • One good way to get people to think is to ask them questions that don't have set answers, which causes them to think about the possibilities.
Example - Is it right to kill a man if I can save 8 more men after his death? What if the man was a decent man who had committed no crime? What if one but only one of the 8 men was a wicked man and murdered 8 men upon being saved? If the answer depends, what does it depend on? What makes it right? What makes it wrong?
Questions like these will prompt people of all races and creeds to think about all of the possibilities and perhaps when exposed to enough questions, the society will begin to think of answers.

We should encourage not only thinking - but individualized thinking, thinking for ones self. Most of society keeps the mindset of the masses, but all great era's start with an individual thinking for themselves. Imagine if the world was full of individuals thinking for themselves!

In promoting thoughts, we must account for the discord created by opposing thoughts. Maybe we should encourage more than just thinking, but getting involved in some form of discourse of thought.

[edit] Working Summary

To encourage thought in society, we must give people a reason to think; we must give them questions to think about; and we must give society the means to discuss their thoughts in a healthy and productive manner.
